Re:mote Induction Feature
1. Why are you involved in a virtual comic conference?
well, actually i was turned on to comicon.com by scott mccloud who suggested i should check it out and see if i could get involved. I emailed steve and rick, but they had been turning down people at that point because they had just started the site and wanted to see how many people would respond. they both checked out my site and agreed to let me in, regardless. it was a nice circumstance.
2. Why are you involved in comics?
i love to draw funny little cartoon characters and i can't get any money doing anything else (i can't even get money drawing funny little cartoon characters, but oh well...) on a more serious note, i feel comics is the most powerful form of visual communication there is. the ability to communitcate ideas, feelings, emotions, and stories through an interaction of images and words is very potent.
3. What are the big difficulties you have in the comics industry?
exposure. about 10% of the U.S. population walks into comic stores and of that 10%, only a small percentage buy anything besides superhero comic books. the beauty of comicon.com is that it opens up the world of comics to a much broader, varied, and diverse audience. basically, anyone in the world can see my comics online. that's why i've become an internet-exclusive cartoonist as of this new year.
"these cyberstrips are an attempt to define (or redefine) comics as we adapt them to the cyberspace frontier. Scott McCloud states that comics are about space=time. HTML obliterates space. how, then, can comics exist on the internet? "
